Lesson Description

This week's study from chapter 15, Rav Isaac Luria, the Ari reveals how sparks of Light become trapped within the Klipot or dark shells by our reactivity and short circuits. The Ari shares that through our practical spiritual work and correction, we release and elevate the sparks of Light out of the Klipot. By doing that we weaken our Opponent. Yosef explains that true Light is not revealed by operating within our natural talents and comfort zone but by venturing into what feels foreign, uncomfortable, or against our nature. Real transformation comes from identifying where we resist growth, maybe through a difficult relationship, unresolved guilt or shame, or an avoided conversation and consciously acting against that resistance. Because it is in these very places that hidden sparks of Light are concealed, waiting to be freed and returned to the side of purity.

About This Course

Isaac Luria, who came to be known as The Ari (meaning ‘Lion' in Hebrew) because of his prodigious capacity for spiritual study and understanding, was a 16th century kabbalist who delved deeply into the mystical wonders of the Zohar. Commonly considered the father of contemporary Kabbalah, the Ari produced a historic commentary on the Zohar that removed many of its layers of complexity. His teachings created some of the most important kabbalistic ideas and practices used today, including the concept of tikkun, or correction of the soul.
